Horror has always reflected the collective fears of society, and the need for escapism is pretty great right now. If Donald Trump wins this election, I’m fairly certain we’ll be seeing a lot more horror, and I’m sure they’ll break the bank. Sometimes, there’s no better way to calm your nerves than seeing a fictional character get fictionally hacked to pieces. Why do you think the slasher is probably the most popular subgenre out there?

As I mentioned in my prior piece on the subject, this election is THE horror story of our time. It’s no wonder my horror conversion started during the Trump administration; real life is terrifying enough — who wouldn’t want to turn their mind off and be scared of something else for a change? Why do you think Terrifier 3 (a film that has prompted walkouts and vomiting in the aisles) was the number-one film in the country this past weekend? Who wants to watch, listen to, or read the news anymore?

I’m not going to mince words: I’m terrified of what’s going to happen on and after November 5th. Unlike my state while writing my earlier piece, I’m no longer just worried; the threat of another four years of Trump is giving me honest-to-goodness anxiety attacks. The Trump campaign’s relentless assault on the truth has seemingly drowned out thoughts of Project 2025, January 6th, 34…
